Is an engaging children’s book that takes young readers on a captivating tour of our solar system. “The Planets: Third Edition” offers a timeless and accessible look at our solar system, making it an excellent resource for curious young minds. ( )

Excellent choice when you want to learn every aspect of the planet at a young age. Its amazing how they fit all this information into this book. ( )

This book is accurate however it is a little dry and boring. It gives students lots of great information, even going so far as to tell the reader the greek word for planets. The book has a lot of information for a picture book and I would not reccommend it for students younger than 2nd or 3rd. The book is also a little outdated as it does talk about Pluto. It even goes so far as to point out that originally astronomers a long time ago thought that there were 8 planets until they discovered pluto to make it the ninth. The book is a great resource for orbits around the sun and how each planet has it's own access. If I was to use this book I would most likely use it in third grade to help teach students about using books for research as it does have pictures but a lot of information. ( )

The Planets by Gail Gibbons starts off explaining that although planets may resemble stars, they are in fact not. We will learn about the planets that make up the "solar system." We learn how the planet spins and how the days are different on each planet. We learn the difference between a star and a planet. We learned which stars we can see by looking into the sky, and which ones you can see using a telescope. I would use this in a science class when teaching about the solar system. The pictures are very clear and the text is very informative. ( )

An excellent introduction to our solar system. Illustrations are sharper and clearer than in previous books. Pluto is included, with its current designation as a dwarf planet. I found it helpful to use a ball (a ball with a globe design would be even better) to demonstrate how a planet rotates as it orbits. I found it interesting that each planet's years and days are different lengths - on Venus, a day is longer than a year, and a year is shorter than a day!
