This book discusses 10 characteristics of God that can also be taken on by human beings. In other words, the book discusses 10 "communicable attributes" of God. (The author has another book that discusses 10 "incommunicable attributes" of God such as sovereign, omniscient, omnipotent....) The communicable attributes include holy, loving, good, just, merciful, gracious, faithful, patient, truthful and wise. God entails those qualities to the utmost, but mankind, as image bearers of God, can have these qualities reflected in us as well. Each attribute gets a chapter. Each chapter is short. At the end of each chapter are 5-7 Bible verses for the reader to meditate on, 4 questions for reflection, and a beautifully written prayer. The author uses a lot of everyday examples or funny vignettes to illustrate her points, so the book is easy to read. But it's not fluff; her theological grounding is strong. I think this is a good book for when you want to do some Christian reading that is serious but not overbearing, lively but not frivolous. 4.5 stars; For my full, non-spoiler review: https://christianlovingbooks.blogspot.com/2019/02/in-his-image-review.html sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
After first teaching women to go deeper in their study of the Bible in Women of the Word, and then unpacking why our limits are a good thing in light of God's limitlessness in None Like Him, best-selling author and Bible teacher Jen Wilkin helps readers see what God's will is for his people: that they reflect the image of their Creator. In His Image explores 10 attributes of God that Christians are called to reflect-they are to be holy, loving, just, good, merciful, gracious, faithful, patient, truthful, and wise. This book allows readers to discover freedom and purpose in becoming all that God made them to be. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

“I have one big problem with this book: people will assume it’s only for women. This couldn’t be further from the truth! God has given Jen Wilkin the gift of making big truths easily understandable, which is great news for a person of average intelligence like myself. All who desire to increase their knowledge of and passion for God should read this book. All who desire to grow in holiness and be conformed to the image of God need to add this to their library. I highly recommend it.” (Stephen Altrogge, author, Untamable God; creator, The Blazing Center)
“A. W. Tozer famously said that what we think about God is the most important and most formative thing about us. Jen Wilkin shows us how the best answers to what we should do are found in what we become, and what we become is determined by our view of God. There is no more important subject matter, and few authors are as capable at communicating such deep truth in simple, engaging ways as Jen Wilkin is.” (J. D. Greear, Pastor, The Summit Church, Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina)
“In His Image is packed full of theological insight, pastoral wisdom, real-life application, and plenty of self-deprecation. Along with its predecessor, None Like Him, it is essential reading for understanding what God is like and what it looks like for us to live in light of that.” (Sam Allberry, Associate Pastor, Immanuel Nashville; author; speaker)
“This book is for everyone who stresses over her decisions, constantly wondering whether or not she’s in God’s will. Jen Wilkin graciously turns these questions upside down by encouraging us to know and behold the character of God, allowing that to inform and transform our actions as image bearers. In His Image presents a biblical and practical explanation of God’s communicable attributes that anyone can grasp, enjoy, and apply!” (Emily Jensen, coauthor, Risen Motherhood: Gospel Hope for Everyday Moments; Cofounder and Content Director, Risen Motherhood)
