This was good stuff. A boy goes off to war thinking it's going to be glamourous and that he's fighting for a good cause and guess what he finds out. :) The art was really nice, the alternate Earth was cool, and the story was dark. It's too bad they stopped back in 2004 after only 6 issues. There was a big plot that they never really touched, only hinted at. I did read that a new book is supposed to come out in about a week. This would be especially strange because I just picked this up randomly last week from the $1 bins at a local place and now suddenly the week after I read it, after it being out of circulation for 18 years, the new book is coming out? Must be some kind of conspiracy.

Reading this the same week that Russia invaded the Ukraine made it even more heavy and sad. ( )

The Great War, reimagined through classic fantasy tropes. It works better than you might think; Busiek and Pacheco's built an extremely detailed world and history that sparks the imagination and makes you feel as though there are many more stories to be told beyond this book. Now all we need is a follow-up series and we're set. ( )
