I loved this story of a woman who wanted to be a doctor in a time when there were few woman doctors. I liked how the story jumped into action right away with the subway accident. Ms. Delamere has a way with developing memorable characters and a moving plot line. I may read more of her books in the future. I’d read Jennifer Delamere’s The Captain’s Daughter last year and really enjoyed it. I knew this would be the perfect book for the lady at my church. I try to find books that she’d enjoy. From what I understand, she’d stopped reading altogether and would watch television all day in the assisted living home. But now that I’m finding these gems, she’s taken to reading again. The last book focused on Rosalyn’s journey to London with the theatre background and history of the Gilbert and Sullivan productions. This time, we meet her sister, Julia, who has come to London to study medicine. The background in this story, obviously, includes the times of women’s suffrage and the advancement of women in medicine, specifically as physicians. I like Jennifer’s writing style. She weaves a bit of the history during that time period to make it interesting but also includes a lot of heart. It’s not just a light romance. It’s historical fiction. And as I’ve said before, I’m not big on romance, but I can handle this because there are enough other things going on in the story to keep my interest. Don’t be put off that this is “book 2” of London Beginnings. Though we do briefly revisit Rosalyn, the reader won’t be lost. This can easily be a stand-alone book, focusing solely on Julia and her efforts to become a doctor. I highly recommended this read for anyone that enjoys historical fiction, light romance or is just looking for a nice read while on vacation. I know my friend will love it. I received a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest opinion. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Strong-minded and independent Julia Bernay comes to London to study medicine and become a doctor--a profession that has only just opened up to women. She witnesses a serious accident, and through her quick actions saves the life of an ambitious young barrister named Michael Stephenson. Coming from a family that long ago lost its money and its respectability, Michael Stephenson has achieved what many would have thought was impossible. Hard work and an aptitude for the law have enabled him to rise above his family's stigma and set him on the path to wealth and recognition. But his well-laid plans are upended when the accident brings Julia into his life. Michael soon discovers he's met a woman every bit as stubborn and determined to make her mark on the world as he is. Sparks fly--but will they find common ground? No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

Genre: Historical Christian Fiction.
My Rating: 5 Stars.
Recommendation: Anyone over 13 since it has a good bit of romance.
My favorite character is: Julia is independent and bold heroine, she is kind and honest. I liked how she helped others even if they didn’t want her help.
My Verse for Julia is Luke 6:31
And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. King James Version.
Michael is determined to be a successful lawyer and is not going to let anyone stand in his way, well that’s what he thinks anyway, I like how he grows in the Heart’s Appeal.
My Verse for Michael is Psalm 37:4
Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart King James Version.
My thoughts: I enjoyed Miss Delamere’s writing style and I have already reread The Heart’s Appeal and I only got it last week.
I received this book from Celebrate Lit in exchange for my honest review and the thoughts are my own. ( )
