As with all Alan Brotchie's Wheels Around books, this one is typically wide-ranging, featuring aircraft, steam wagons, a steam road roller and even a wheeled device for hauling in salmon nets from the River Dee. More typically included are the buses, trams, cars, bicycles and lorries that can be seen going about their business on the city's streets. The book also features Culter station, the Murcar trainie (which ran from near Bridge of Don to Murcar Golf Club), busy dock scenes at South Market Street, the launch of a vessel from Hall, Russell's shipyard and the tank Julian on a First World War visit to the city. As ever, there is as much to catch the eye in the backgrounds of the photographs as in the vehicles they showcase, which ensures that Wheels Around Aberdeen will appeal to anyone with an interest in the history of the city as well as to dedicated transport enthusiasts.
