In this follow-up to The Idiot Brain, Dean Burnett turns his attention to how the brain processes experiences, memories and sensations in order to generate the feeling we would recognize as happiness. The book is well constructed as a narrative, with each chapter following on logically, and there are plenty of amusing footnotes and asides as in his previous book. But for some reason I wasn’t in the right headspace to fully appreciate it. It could in all probability be because I was reading the Canadian edition, which has a different cover from the UK and US editions and looks kind of weird. So I think I’ll get a copy of the UK edition and try again.
