This book is a comprehensive but extremely approachable introduction to gardening, well-suited to folks who want to garden more but don't have a lot of time or expertise.
My go-to gardening guide is The Self-Sufficient Gardener by John Seymour, but that book can seem dated and a bit out-of-touch in terms of the space and time that many readers have to devote to a garden.
The Suburban Micro-Farm helps me see the potential of my small garden and to make progress toward the sustainable, productive landscape i want to create for the long term.
I especially appreciate how Stross introduces permaculture principles in a way that recognizes their roots in various agricultural traditions (no colonizer appropriation here) and helps a reader see that permaculture practices are important tools for all gardeners and all communities.
Most of all, i love the author's no-nonsense, affirmative writing style. She gives just enough detail to inspire and enable, but is quick to direct the reader to more detailed, in-depth guidance when appropriate.
This book will stay in my library for a long time. ( )

A lot of great information but I wonder if this book ever saw an editor. Maybe a second edition is in order? ( )
