I did love the art style but not a lot happened and what did was pretty predictable. I don't think I will be continuing on with the series. ( ) Melodrama! Swashbuckling! Romance! The prettiest dresses! Very much up my alley. I enjoyed the art, but wish the colors had had the same vibrancy as the cover art. I feel like color in general is tricky when it comes to this very traditional style of American comics illustration (which presumably has a name! I just do not happen to know it). The delicate inking mean that the line and color sometimes feel like they're fighting against one another. Maybe I'm just not used to seeing this kind of art these days - I had the same issue with Pretty Deadly. I’m swooning right now, kids. I’m having a hard time expressing myself beyond sighs, and I’m not sure how one spells a sigh. Is it just a bunch of h’s? Like Hhhhhhhhh? That doesn’t look right. I also don’t know how to spell the sound of falling over (I know you think I covered “falling over” when I swooned, but imagine, if you will, a person swooning, then lying on the floor sighing, then getting back in her chair, and then falling out of it) because now I have to wait before I can read more about Poppy, Bini, and Cerenic and Vaughn’s strange world where time is magical and dangerous. So swoons, sighs and falling over—that’s how I feel about this series after reading the first volume. I enjoyed both the writing and the art of this comic book; glad to see it continues. I liked how the dialogue was written because it seemed authentic to how monarchs would talk. Also, I liked how the fashion was a balanced mix of European, African, and Asian styles that blended well and were not forced. It's a light fantasy and a good romance story. Poppy, the main character, is thankfully not an Americanized princess where they either are damsels in distress or unrealistic rich "outcast". She just wants to live her life peacefully and her own way; worry about someone assassinating her (which has happened a lot in royalty of every century). Also, I liked how this comic doesn't shy away from cousins marrying cousins, illegitimate children, marrying for the mere sake of politics, and the constant gossip of court life. “Sleepless” is set in a medieval world where an order of knights take a vow of sleeplessness in order to protect their wards. Like, they literally never sleep, ever. However, the longer they maintain their vow of sleeplessness, the more prone they are to “drifting”, hallucinating and slipping into a coma-like state. Soooo, who thought this vow thing was a good idea? ¯_(ツ)_/¯ The premise of the Sleepless knights feels little convoluted for it’s own good. But the art in this book is truly fantastic and there’s just enough royal intrigue to keep things interesting. Seriously though, take a look at that spectacular cover which features brooding, smokin’ hot Cyrenic and his ward, Lady Pyppenia. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
