Ever wanted to know the story of the man that became captain of the Enterprise-D? Now you can! This book is an in-universe autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard, as if told from his point of view. "Written" after the latest Star Trek movie, (i.e. including Spock being sent to the Kelvin-universe), it mostly focuses on Picard's life before the events of TNG, and then once in TNG events only the most major ones. Seeing as we can just watch TNG to experience the events that happened, it makes sense. Overall the book is a real fun read, I found I had trouble putting it down but I've always been a sucker for the lore of sci-fi universes. Is it an amazingly well written book? No, but it's fun, expands the character we've grown to know over the course of seven seasons of TV and four movies into an even more relateable character and ties everything together. It should go without saying that you really should watch TNG movies before reading this book, and ideally Star Trek: Enterprise and to a lesser degree The Original Series. There's a number of name drops and surprise encounters with characters we met before (somehow Picard managed to run into nearly every major character at some point in his career...) that are far more appreciated if you know them. It doesn't hurt to be hitting up Memory Alpha frequently while reading. Anyone who's a TNG fan will enjoy this book, it's a quick read done in a couple days. This is a somewhat bland novel that is supposed to be an autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard, but reads more like a Vulcan student's summary of the life of Captain Picard in which his human school mate wrote the first third dealing with Picard's childhood. Nothing particularly new or exciting to read here. I recommend the Star Gazer novels by Michael Jan Friedman and Buried Age by Christopher L. Bennett for anyone wanting to know more about Jean-Luc Picard. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

"The Autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard tells the story of one of the most celebrated names in Starfleet history. His extraordinary life and career makes for dramatic reading: court martials, unrequited love, his capture and torture at the hand of the Cardassians, his assimilation with the Borg and countless other encounters as captain of the celebrated Starship Enterprise"--Amazon.com. Thoroughly enjoyable look back at Jean-Luc's early life before the Enterprise, and also some good snippets from the series and afterwards also.
Another must for Trekkies everywhere. ( )
