The War I Finally Won is a sequel to The War that Saved My Life. In this sequel Ada is no longer belonging to anyone anymore. She is her own person. Her club foot was finally surgically corrected thanks to her best friend's parents' money. Ada and Jamie's mother was killed in a bombing raid and move in with Miss Smith. Eventually Ada's best friend's mother, Lady Thorton, also moves in with Miss Smith, as does a Jewish German refugee who needs to be tutored in math by Miss Smith. Lady Thorton develops an immediate dislike for Ruth, the refugee, while Ada and Jamie are convinced that Ruth is a German spy. Lady Thorton won't allow Ruth to go anywhere on Miss Smith's property besides the cottage where Ruth is staying. Ada and Ruth slowly develop a friendship after finding out that they have a mutual love for horses. The book ends with Ada thinking about trust, love, and friendship in her own ways, not in the ways of anyone else.

Just like The War that Saved My Life, I loved this book. Not much more, but more so than the first book of this two book series. Mostly because there is a background on war, but unlike The War that Saved My Life, it's not the main focus of the book. The main focus of this book is Ada and her surroundings. This is most definitely a book that I would recommend to other kids my age or younger. I think they would love this book just as much as I did. Again, Bradley is one of my favorite authors, and I hope other kids find as much joy in her books as I do. ( )
