Author William Lach adds to a Metropolutan Museum of Art Collection Series in the tradition of Classical paintings and music by portraying a multisensory journey for younger readers. This introduction to the arts uses music (an attached CD) and paintings in the book to guide the reader with both auditory and visual stimuli throughout. Musical tracks such as The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens is paired with visual masterpieces such as Ocean Life by Christian Schussele to give the reader a double dose of beautiful orchestrations and timely depictions of nature and history. The book starts with three pages towards the introduction of musical instruments (strings, percussion, brass, woodwinds). This is a very good book to use to introduce a lesson on the classical era, or otherwise musical tracks to add depth to understanding fine art. A wonderful book sponsored by the Met.
