Very good story & character. Double bonus points for the queer relationship not featuring either homophobia or cheating, but creates dramatic tension by story & character beats alone. The world & characters are expertly crafted and tells a fantastic story without overstaying its welcome. ( )

This is the 10th Sapphic fantasy I've read so far this year and the only one I haven't liked. I'd go so far as to say this is one of the worst books I've read. I liked the premise but the characters and plot are incredibly thin and loaded with tropes. The romance evolves too fast and is overly dramatic and cloying even for a romance subplot. The villain is cartoonish and the ending atrocious. Avoid and don't listen to the hype. there are so many better books out there. ( )

Found this book through a Twitter thread and couldn't be more pleased to have read it! This is a fun queer magical fantasy book that I think everyone should read. There were a few clever plot twists here and there that really caught me off guard and I found the writing style of Zoe to be straight to the point and simple but didn't make the experience boring or anything near it. The characters are lovable and I just like how everything panned out at the end, can't go into detail without ruining your experience with it though so you'll just have to read it for yourself! It has a good ending despite a LOT of stuff the characters have to go through which is what the current young, queer generation deserves! ( )

I like fantasy....in movies, not books. Breaking Legacies, however, is giving me plenty of reasons to explore the genre I so happily skip over when deciding on the next book to read. Honestly, it was only out of curiosity that I gave this lengthy story a shot. Fortunately, it was all over the moment I cracked my forefinger and swiped to Chapter 1. I was so engrossed in this love story I had blurred vision for three days straight.

Breaking Legacies reads like a T.V. mini series. It’s a slight mix of Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings but with strong, independent women as main characters. There’s Kiena the brave, her love Ava the romantic, Nita the pragmatist, and Rhein the peacemaker. I don’t know who or what Elder Numa is, but I’m throwing her in there too. There is only one descriptive intimate scene between Kiena and Ava, but with all the physical contact and intense emotions, one is enough. The chemistry, spark, magnetic attraction, etc is there, all of it. (I wonder about that painting Ava showed Kiena near the cave...hmm 🤔) That dungeon scene with Hazlitt was dra-ma-tic. I think I held my breath while reading the entire scene. I did get misty eyed, but it’s that damn tablet vision syndrome I tell ya, gets me every time. Speaking of eyes, I’ll never look at dragons the same way again; you talk about sacrifice. Also, there was a nice surprise for Ava at the end which brought the story full circle.

I hate that my review doesn’t give this book the raving review it deserves. You’ll just have to read it to see for yourself.
