When Hailey Harper left her family farm to enroll in veterinary school, she had a plan: keep her head down, ace her classes, and most importantly... don't upset the uncle paying her tuition. Translation? Don't piss off his dramatic, self-absorbed daughter, Danica, even if she's a nightmare to live with. Falling in love with her cousin's rock star ex-boyfriend was definitely not part of the plan. As the drummer of a now-famous rock band, Mike Madden could have any girl he wants. He's sweet, funny, romantic, talented--and the only guy that's ever made Hailey's heart do cartwheels in her chest. The more she gets to know him, the harder she falls, but Hailey knows they can never be more than friends... because Danica wants him back, and she'll fight dirty to win. Mike is falling for Hailey too, but Danica's threats and his rock star life--music video shoots, international tours, obsessed fans--could tear them apart before they've even begun. Hailey isn't sure she's the one for him, but Mike's waited years for a girl like her... and he'll do anything to prove it.… (más)

Not for me.

I was uncomfortable with him being with Danica, even sleeping with her then spending time, chatting and bonding with Hailey, the heroine, Danica's cousin.
I felt it was justified by making Danica out to be a world class bitch to Mike and everyone else, only really interested in him now he was famous. I just felt Mile needed to sort his feelings out then pursue Hayley, if that's what he wanted.
He did only pursue Hayley after he and Danica finished but really he was emotionally invested before then which despite your girlfriend being a bitch doesn't make it okay.
The whole situation made me feel uncomfortable.
The after shocks of their relationship is really good. The ex Danica on the rampage.

911 What's your emergency?

Well it's pretty simple actually, I'm dying to reads this.

*clears throat*

So, my means of expressing how excited I am to read this was perhaps cheesy, but I am so bloody excited for this.

Mike is the most adorable character, and if you dot believe me then here a quote from him, explaining why he doesn't want to sleep with groupies:

"Look... when I meet my wife, I don't want to have to explain to her why I slept with a hundred chicks before I met her, okay?"

Don't get me wrong, the other guys from the band were all pretty great, but Mike is the kind of guy I would actually like to date.
He's a kind-hearted and considerate guy, so much so that he worries about the feelings of a future wife he hasn't met yet.

It makes me want to cuddle him.

I'm assuming he's going to be paired with Hailey, as her cousin is an absolute piece of work and a relationship with her is unacceptable in my eyes. Mike deserves better, way better.

And Hailey seems the perfect fit for Mike: she loves videogames, and seems like a nice girl.

The expectations for this book were unreal. I've been waiting for Mike's story since Mayhem and this did not disappoint.

The chemistry is fantastic! These two were adorable and even the love triangle didn't phase me. (To be fair, the heroine isn't the one in the love triangle who has to choose so that helps). I also loved the character development. The heroine's growth throughout was wonderful.

So sad to see this series go but I couldn't have asked for a better ending than this!

3 1/2 review feb 21

For probably 3/4 of the novel I was loving this book despite the fact that it felt extremely Young Adult to me rather than the New Adult that it’s supposed to be, except for the sudden sex scene, which was good, spontaneous, and definitely hot (and rarely happens in ya fiction). There were lots of sweet moments and Hailey was a nice change from the typical main character, although I would definitely have believed her to be sixteen or seventeen from her behavior rather than 23.

At the 3/4 mark, Hailey’s lack of self-esteem driven angst continued for far too many pages for this reader. The fact that Hailey’s whinge-fest resulted in Mike’s need to return home sucked eggs. While I can imagine that to the very young that seems romantic (“oh, bliss, he’s willing to throw his career away for me!) as an adult it felt needy and co-dependent. Pull yourself up and adult already! Up to this point it was definitely a 4 to a 4.5 butterfly book for me.

Jamie Shaw rocked Havoc. Veterinarian student, Hailey Harper, ends up falling for her egocentric cousin, Danica’s ex-boyfriend, Mike Madden. Now that Mike’s bad is making it big, Danica once again has her sight set on him. This contemporary Rockstar romance is suitable for new adult audiences.

Jamie Shaw does a great job with her character development. They are complex and well-developed. I like Mike. My son is also a drummer, so I always have a little bias towards drummers. Mike has a big heart, is talented, and has a great personality. I love how he treats Hailey’s little brother, Luke.

Hailey is a sweet heroine. I’m an animal lover, so her being a vet student is a big plus. She is a great girl who is down to earth. She is caring and smart. I love how she befriends the band and their girlfriends.

Danica is a piece of work. Her actions cause some fascinating controversies in the story. She is a selfish individual who is used to getting what she wants. Some of the things that come out of her mouth just made me shake my head. She is the opposite of Hailey. It’s hard to believe they’re related.

I enjoyed the plot. There were a lot of complexities involved in the various relationships that made the story interesting, especially, between Hailey’s family. I love the video game scenes. I adored the ending.

This was the first book I read by Jamie Shaw. I really enjoyed her writing style. I am interested in going back and reading the earlier books in the Mayhem series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. ( )
