"From the moment she uttered the brave and honest words, "I am an alcoholic," to interviewer George Stephanopoulos, Elizabeth Vargas began writing her story, as her experiences were still raw. Now, in BETWEEN BREATHS, Vargas discusses her accounts of growing up with anxiety-which began suddenly at the age of six when her father served in Vietnam-and how she dealt with this anxiety as she came of age, to her eventually turning to alcohol for relief. She tells of how she found herself living in denial, about the extent of her addiction and keeping her dependency a secret for so long. She addresses her time in rehab, her first year of sobriety, and the guilt she felt as a working mother who had never found the right balance. Honest and hopeful, BETWEEN BREATHS is an inspiring read"-- ""A no-holds-barred memoir of anxiety, addiction, and recovery, from beloved ABC 20/20 anchor Elizabeth Vargas."--Provided by the publisher"--… (más)

I really enjoyed this book and reading about the struggles that Elizabeth went through.
I found her story to be motivational and honest (and sad). It is easy to see how one can slide down a slippery slope from social drinking.
Thank you, Elizabeth, for letting us into your life and struggles in order to help someone else who may be struggling. ( )

Good account of life-long anxiety and self-medicating alcoholism and multiple trips to different kinds of rehab. ( )

Very brief account of the author's alcoholism. It may have been difficult to write and I hope it was helpful in her recovery. I wish it had more depth. ( )

My son has read this book after me and has passed it on to the Hope Center for others to read ( )

A very honest, touching and courageous book about what it's like to treat anxiety with alcohol and the long, repeated recovery processes.. Writing and publishing it probably helped a lot with her recovery process. I really hope she's able to keep it up this time! ( )
