Find this review on The StoryGraph. Wow. Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff deliver. Again. After reading and enjoying The Aurora Cycle and Illuminae I wanted to read Gemina, and headed in with high expectations that I'll enjoy it as much as the previous four works from these authors. I saw Gemina in a library, picked it up and glanced at the blurb, making it seem intriguing. When I closed the final page, it was enjoyable. In a post-Illuminae reading frenzy I picked up this 659-page book yesterday at the library. I just finished it today. It's SO. FREAKIN. GOOD. There are slithery, venomous aliens; time-changing wormholes; a badass krav maga Queen; a suave tattooed space gangster; just every bit of scifi goodness packed into one glittering helping of action and intrigue. I can't wait to dive into the final book! This book was epic but so prefect. I loved the characters and how the story was told and how the story tied in with the characters from the first book. I love the art and also the characters path through the story... need the next story like yesterday! I really adored the audiobook formate of this book so much. If you have not listen to them you really need. The full cast really makes this book sound like movie. I loved the diversity of the cast and also the interactions between the four leads. HTML:A New York Times Bestseller Brace yourself for GEMINA—the highly anticipated sequel to the book critics called “out-of-this-world awesome”—featuring journal illustrations by bestselling author Marie Lu! Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed. The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault. Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy's most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion. When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station's wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands. But relax. They've totally got this. They hope. Once again told through a compelling dossier of emails, IMs, classified files, transcripts, and schematics, Gemina raises the stakes of the Illuminae Files, hurling readers into an enthralling new story that will leave them breathless. The threads are coming together, but I must say if the company doesn't pay for what they did in the final book, I will be very sad.
I love the snark and grit of the two main characters.
These books are very compelling and so well done for being such an alternative to straight narrative. I wish there were more books in the series. ( )
