Things are never as they seem in this one. The connections between these characters isn't just what is given at face value. There is more than meets the eye when it comes to these two characters and their families. Although I really liked the twists and turns and evolving of the characters in this book, I had a hard time completely connecting to this story. Things in this book happened too quickly. They seemed forced instead of natural. Overall, this is a good story. It's full of secrets and danger. It's dark and gritty. Who doesn't love some deception, danger and love all tied up together in one story! Well, when Calla comes back to town six years later to get a divorce, she is faced with the truth and HOLY wow was that something else. This is a riveting story that kept me glued to my Kindle until ‘The End’. Ms. Coopmans did not disappoint in this first book of The Syndicate Series. I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book to come out, please hurry!! The name of the series is The Syndicate so that should give you a clue that this is about the Mafia so that shouldn't be a spoiler. Everyone from both sides had done a great job of making sure that Calla Greer had no idea what kind of family she was born into nor what kind of family her husband Cain was from. Callie has been living clueless in Canada for 6 years not knowing that there has been a contract out on her. When she comes back to Detroit for a divorce she had no idea what she was walking into. As with any Mafia series its not just about the 2 main characters. The mob is all about the family and there are plenty of additional characters that make up this story. I enjoyed this first book that introduced us to the two families and look forward to getting more of their stories in future books. (NOTE: This is not a cliffhanger book per se as Calla and Cain resolve their issues during the book but there are threads that are not concluded that I am sure will be in the future books) (  ) CindySnS | Oct 26, 2016 | now where do I start about this book, apart from I loved every minute of reading it. Young lovers who got married at a very young age, torn apart by circumstances that one doesn't know about. Two different worlds, but are they really. Secrets hidden and one person will have the world they thought they knew change within a second. Calla a young woman and her childhood love Cain marry in secret, then tragedy strikes and Calla flees, breaking all contact. Calla finds her ways and grows to be a very strong woman, and returns to her childhood home, only to seek a divorce from her childhood sweetheart Cain. Cain born into a world where he is part of an MC must pay the ultimate price on his wedding night and hurt the woman he has just married in order to keep her safe. He has never forgotten Calla and he too has grown up and changed in ways that when Calla returns she doesn't recognise him. Secrets are told, love renewed, this book has it all. Sexy scenes, violence, sexy biker men, mafia men what more can you ask for. Two worlds brought together, by love that can never be tamed. The only reason for 2 stars is I didn't find editing errors as far as spelling, wrong words and typos of that sort.
There is a heavy dose of juvenile dialog and behavior by all characters including parents. Heavy dose of run on internal dialog. Contradicting dialog. Even the type of mc club Cain is a part of contradicts itself. And by the time I dnf'ed it was starting to be repetitive.
The female mc cries constantly.
Reads like a young adult wrote it.
I can't take it anymore.
Highly annoying. (
