The Bakersfield and Kern Picture Album by Chris Brewer and Don Pipkin was first published in 1986 by Brewer-Pipkin Publications in Bakersfield, California. It soon became a fast-seller in bookstores in Bakersfield and Kern County. In 1989 a second edition was published and continued to intrigue residents and visitors of Bakersfield with the photographic history of the area. Trade paper editions of the book were printed in 2001 and 2004. Chris Brewer published another volume of historical photographs on the Bakersfield entitled Bakersfield’s Photographic Past in 1998 to supplement the Bakersfield and Kern Picture Album. Future historic photographic books are also scheduled.
