There's a single defining moment within every skater. It lasts only a second. Two if you're good.Three if you're really good. It's the moment you're in the air, your board somewhere beneath you, and nothing but wind surrounds you. It's the feeling of being airborne. The sixteen-year-old version of me would've said it was the greatest feeling in the world. Then at seventeen, I had my son.And every single second became a defining moment.Even the ones that consisted of heartbreak when his mother left us.Seventeen. Single. Dad.That's what my life became.Yet, every day, I managed to find that feeling of being airborne.Or at least I convinced myself I did.But I lied-to myself and to everyone around me.Until she showed up; Tanned skin, raven dark hair, and eyes the color of emeralds. You know what sucks about being in the air?Coming down from the high.Sometimes you land on the board and nail the trick. Then kick, push, and coast away.Other times you fall. You fall hard. And those are the times when it's not as easy to get back up, dust off your pads and try again.Especially when the girl with the emerald eyes becomes your drug...And you become her poison.… (más)

Sweet baby Jesus. This book... it's not very often that I can say that I have read a book that touches me the way this book did. I cried so hard that my nose ran, actually clutched my heart because my heart ached and felt like it was literally breaking. I was invested in these characters. I felt like I KNEW them. I LOVED them. I'm still in a state of disarray for lack of a better word. Bottom line-- I'm a wreck after the emotional rollercoaster ride following the lives of Josh, Becca, and Tommy.

Holy fire trucks Jay McLean, you hit this out of the park. Kudos. Do yourself a favor. Buy this book. You will not regret it. If nothing else you will learn that in order to truly experience life (the good and the bad) then you have to Kick. Push. Coast. It is in the interconnectedness of these three words that we can find new meaning in joy, hope, and love.

ALL THE FEELS!

Like any other Jay McLean book, I felt every emotion while reading this. I laughed, I swooned, I cried. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish!

It was refreshing to read a story about a single dad in a New Adult form. Lots of times I read about single moms who get left behind so it was nice to see the tables turned a bit. Josh is a sweet guy who puts his whole heart into anything so I couldn't help but cheer for him.

There are so many layers to this story that it's hard to talk about them all without giving away spoilers. Becca is a complex character but not overly so. I liked the mystery of uncovering what happened in her past and trying to put it all together. Josh was the same way though I felt he was more of an open-book when compared. Both have their scars and there is something so great about love trying to heal those scars when two people meet.

This book was also unpredictable--in a good way. It kept me on the edge of my seat, trying to figure out what would happen next. I'm very curious to see how everything unfolds in the sequel!
