In March 1987, David Crow journeyed to this land of stark contrasts, leaving his successful San Francisco acupuncture and herb clinic in search of teachings in Tibetan medicine and Buddhist meditation.Within a week of his arrival in Katmandu, he became the only Western student of Dr. Ngawang Choephel, an elderly Lama-physician. Using his newfound knowledge, Crow opened a clinic in Katmandu and another in a small mountain village, where he treated beggars from the street as well as high abbots of monasteries.
