Exodus to a Hidden Valley is an inspirational account of the lives of three generations of the Morse family in the years following their forced departure from their mission work in northern Burma. Hoping to cross the border into India, the Morses, along with several hundred Lisu tribes people, undertook an arduous trek westward across the jungle. When the group was denied entry into India, they established settlements in the formerly uninhabited border area between India and Burma. Gradually the Morses and their Lisu friends built homes, churches, and schools, planted crops and fruit trees, raised livestock, and established a local economy in the midst of the jungle. The Morses and the Lisu Christians trusted in God's providence. There is no hint of bitterness in the book, but rather an acceptance of the situation in which they found themselves, a determination to make the best living they could from the resources at hand, and a profound gratitude for God's blessings. I highly recommend this book for those who enjoy missionary or Christian biographies, and also for those who like non-fiction adventure/survival stories. Would-be Survivor contestants could learn a thing or two from this book! sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
Exodus to a Hidden Valley: Thriving in the Midst of a Jungle is the second volume in a three book set that tells the compelling story of ministry and mission in Southeast Asia. This trilogy is being released in recognition of the 100 year anniversary of the beginning of it all in 1921.During World War II the Morses and a younger brother helped flyers who crashed while carrying supplies over the 'Hump'. After the war they returned to the United States to study and to marry, and then followed their parents as missionaries. The Morses were forced out of China by the Communists (their father was imprisoned for fifteen months) and settled in northern Burma in 1950. The families' work continued with the Lisu and Rawang people in that area.In 1965, the families had to move to an area to the west of Putao. This book recounts events that were experienced during the six years in that area. They were forced to leave the country in 1972. The author's family and some of his children and other members of the larger family are continuing on in the work in Southeast Asia. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
