I am always fascinated with different beliefs and cultures. This book is well written and thoughtful, and discusses the culture and beliefs of the Amish. Very useful information. ( )

Not sure why this appealed to me when I saw it as a new acquisition at the library. I am well beyond my parenting (actively) years but always read parenting books like crazy when my kids were younger, much to the chagrin of my children and husband. One book was Siblings Without Rivalry which I was teased about and was told that it's real title should be "Earth Without Gravity"! There is something that appeals to me about this strong faith based community that holds traditions and choices faithfully and successfully despite the (crazy) changes in our world. It is such a family oriented and "other" oriented group it would seem. There were some good tips for making children happy, content and productive and oriented to others.
