Know Thyself, a Delphic Maxim, is a book on the purpose of life which leads to self-realization! The Know Thyself truth of the aphorism is the pinnacle of knowledge and self-realization. However, this awareness exists beyond the mind. From the time we are born, we innately understand that in order to succeed in this world we must strive for it. Children must learn to crawl, walk and then run. We must strive to get an education, job, career or start a business. We have to seek success. But what if everything we sought was already ours? To use an analogy, imagine if you wanted to become a millionaire. You may play the lottery, steal for it or come up with a business plan. You may get up every morning and work towards that goal. Depending upon many variables, you may move closer and closer to your goal. You will have varying results as well. One day you may earn a thousand dollars, the next one hundred and then the following day ten thousand. Since a million dollars is a lofty goal (depending upon where you started) you may become discouraged because your results don't come quickly enough. But what if instead of all the energy and effort you put into obtaining a million dollars you simply went to your bank account, checked your balance and realized you were already a millionaire? Wouldn't that be a pleasant surprise? Spiritual growth is very similar. We read books, we become more charitable, we think in global terms. We try to treat others by the golden rule. We meditate, practice yoga or seek out "more spiritual" teachers to guide us. We become Truth seekers... always seeking but never finding. The term "self-realization" isn't an action or an undertaking. It is simply a realization. A realization "that which I seek I already am!" We are already the source of that which we seek outside of ourselves! It's already in your bank account! Try to impregnate this notion within yourself: I am already Awakened! I am already wealthy. I am already Enlightened! I am already prosperous. I am already joyful. I am already blissful. I am already serene, at peace and tranquil. I am already wise. I am already wisdom. I am already all-knowing, universal and content. I am already fulfilled. I need to strive for nothing other than realizing that I already am! "I Am" Already... So the question then becomes "If I am already that which I seek then why do I not realize it?" Therein lies the key to the essence of "Know Thyself!" Yoga is the means to the attainment of union between the soul and Spirit. "Many rivers... One Ocean; many branches... One Tree; many paths... One Destination; many stories... One Truth!" 1 S.O.U.L.
