Study engages a team of scholars, Maya and otherwise informed, who have looked at the "Maya movement" up close, to examine the political landscape of Guatemala a decade after the Peace Accords. Examines the evolution of the Maya revitalization movement in relation to the state and to popular community movements and groups. Nine contributions discuss aspects of the Maya political stance post-conflict, how it changed over time, and its ties to education, language, and other issues. Many have concerns about government cooption, the reduction of rights to cultural ones, avoiding material and land rights concerns by focusing on religious freedom, language rights in education, and access to sacred sites, rather than more pressing concerns. The collective works serve to interrogate the movement's legitimacy and representativeness in relation to community concerns. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
