The characters were believable in how they dealt with the life altering events that occurred in their lives. I loved the story line and the protagonists and the slight twist at the end was well written. I hope this author writes more books because I quite enjoy her writing style and characterization. It's a real emotional read that really touches you. Heroine has a boyfriend of three years at the start of the book. Hero is a man-whore. Heroine is a virgin, her boyfriend wants to wait til marriage. They break up quite quickly. The Hero is amazing until the last part. He is older than her but the actions described below are really childish. He's still quite young but still........ No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine except him dancing close with other woman and the other woman running her hands over him. Secondary characters introduced. Pushing away by heroine. Spoiler... And I loved it up to the point when Josh sees her having lunch with her ex, she's telling him goodbye and there is no chance of getting back together and I was disgusted with the way Josh then treated her. He told her he'd wait for her to be ready for a relationship then he deliberately hurts her and encourages the two girls that have been chasing him. At that point I wish she'd said b4 getting in the car that she'd set Riley straight and chosen him then walked away, not let him hurt her so much that he let her think he would sleep with someone else. He lost my respect at that point. Details of other woman drama in comments below this review.

She knew. That's why Mom hadn't opened the door. She knew he was dead. Twenty years as an army brat and Ember Howard knew, too. The soldiers at the door meant her dad was never coming home. What she didn't know was how she would find the strength to singlehandedly care for her crumbling family when her mom falls apart. Then Josh Walker enters her life. Hockey star, her new next-door neighbor, and not to mention the most delicious hands that insist on saving her over and over again. He has a way of erasing the pain with a single look, a single touch. As much as she wants to turn off her feelings and endure the heartache on her own, she can't deny their intense attraction. Until Josh's secret shatters their world. And Ember must decide if he's worth the risk that comes with loving a man who could strip her bare.
