*SPOILERS if you haven't read book 1 or 2*

With Rennie gone, everything on Jar Island is somber. Lillian can't help but feel responsible. After all, if she hadn't left the NYE party with Reeve, she'd probably still be alive. Kat feels guilty because she let Rennie drive off that night. And Mary?? Well she's finally figured out what she is, and she's going to use it to finally get her ultimate revenge. Lillian and Reeve are in love?? Oh no, that's not happening. Reeve is not going to get his happy ending if Mary has anything to say about it.

The final wrap-up of all the vengeance and revenge and lies is here.
I think I liked this book best in the series. It was addicting, I was in the perfect mood for it, and I love the way it's written. Siobhan Vivian and Jenny Han write books JUST the way I like to read them. I don't even know how to explain what that is, but it's perfection. Every time I read their books I feel like I'm not reading at all. I feel like a friend is talking to me and telling me something that happened to them. I LOVE that feeling.

This book was better because the Mary situation is out in the open. We as readers know that she's- you know- and therefor her POV is a lot more do-able than it was in the other 2 books. I tended to get annoyed with her before, but in this book it was a completely different thing. Kat and Lillia grow closer without Rennie wedging in-between them and Kat becomes apart of the group like she should have always been. I did think that Lillia could have been more there for Kat throughout the book though. A good friend would have not ignored her texts every time things got tough.

On that note: I still haven't figured out what is so great about Lillian. As Heath Ledger would say in 10 Things I Hate About You- Does she have beer flavored nipples or something?? I mean, why does every guy seem to become hypnotized by her. She's naive and nice, but she's also a little spoiled and selfish too. What I'm saying is that she's not without faults, we don't all have to be in love with her do we?

I flew through this book and really loved it so much... up until that Epilogue. Can I just pretend that didn't happen? We are basically told where everyone ends up in their future lives... and I guess if the authors didn't want to answer a bunch of questions, that's fine, but I personally wasn't a fan and felt it was not needed.

This is a fun series and I really hope these 2 team up again to write in the future. Pretty please Jenny and Siobhan????

OVERALL: Love. This. Series. If you want a series about friendship, revenge, and love with a paranormal twist... this is for you. It's well written, entertaining, and totally high school in all the best ways. The 3rd book was definitely my favorite. All the characters I love come full circle and everything is wrapped up. And Mary was MUCH more tolerable.

teen fiction (ghostbusting romance revenge). The ending was good, but hardly anything happened for the first 135 pages. ( )

I really liked this series, except the AWFUL ENDING. After all that drama, and that's the ending you want us to be satisfied with? After I finished this book, I felt like something was missing. There's a void waiting to be filled.

The entire book is spent waiting for Reeve and Lillia to come clean to everyone and for everyone to accept their relationship, which includes a missing Mary, who refuses to accept that or her own situation. Only to have it end that way!

I would have been okay with this book, but that ending was disappointing. I mean I'm satisfied with Kat's ending though. I read reviews where people thought that there was a bias between Lillia and Kat/Mary, where Lillia is rich and pretty things are going easier for her than Kat and Mary. Which I understand that's the way it is. But if we reflect that in real life, usually pretty and rich girls will have less problems and things will be easier for them. As for Kat, yeh she's pretty, but she's not financially sound, and that's usually when things get worse. Life is not easy. I mean it's only a book, but I feel like that's a good representation because life isn't fair and life likes to give us obstacles to face in life. welppp. ( )

Nope. I guess this was an adequate wrap-up of the series, but I don't think any of the characters arced particularly well through this final novel.

The epilogue was so cheesy.

I DO admire Han and Vivian's commitent to their theme--they did manage to bring it around to the same revenge plot, but unfortunately it got really old really quick.

SPOILERS FOR IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED FIRE WITH FIRE
I was never inclined to believe Mary was actually dead. Even as far as 46% into this book, I still expected it to be revealed she was actually alive. The ghost mechanics made no sense. 1) One of the most fundamental differences between the living and the dead in most mythologies is that the living can change and the dead can't, yet Mary somehow changed from a heavt=y 13-year-old to a skinny 17-year-old. 2) Why did she only decide to start haunting now? What was she doing for the previous five years? 30 Why could Kat and Lillia and Rennie and half the male population of the high school see her and others couldn't? I realize they attempted to explain that, but it didn't plug all the holes. I would have actually rathered that they didn't try to explain it all. In the first two books, they drew deep enough into their narrative that they could have not questioned the fact that it made no sense, and just continued as though it did. I would still have these questions, yes, but arguably less to complain about.
Also, I understand that their explanation was just another way for them to keep the revenge theme central to their narrative, but we could have arrived at the same place thematically without offering that feeble explanation--Mary sees the boy being bullied, pushes the tree over, he doesn't see her and she still concludes she must be some sort of avenging ghost. Still works, just fine.

Anyways, not my favorite ending to a series. Not bad, but not my favorite. For thematically similar narratives that I belive performed better see [b:We Were Liars|16143347|We Were Liars|E. This is a great case to show why I usually will try something more than once before giving up on it for good. I previously tried to start this series, and I was just not in the mood for it. I ended up reading around 50% of the first book and did not finish it. I could not get into it or the high school cattiness. I own all three books and decided to give it one more try before giving it away. I am glad I did.

I ended up enjoying this so much more than I was expecting. I liked learning more around each of our main characters and their stories. This does deal with some series issues such as drugs, bullying, suicide, and rape. I did not realize it was going to cover all of these topics when I gave up on it the first time. If you are struggling to get through the beginning, try to push through as it was worth it to me.

I have seen so many people talk about this series, and do not remember anyone saying this deals with the paranormal. I was not sure what direction this was going to take with that, but it did not take the path I thought. Book three actually gets pretty dark.

Overall, I am very happy that I gave this a second chance and binge read the series. It was pretty good. ( )
