A devastating tornado struck Tuscaloosa and the University of Alabama campus on April 27, 2011. Never before did this tight-knit community have to overcome such a tragedy. In the debris, lives were lost and dreams were shattered, but the town pulled together as "One." The "One" motto carried over to the Crimson Tide football players, many of whom helped look for survivors on that fateful April afternoon. When they returned to practice, Alabama players and coaches decided the best way to honor the fallen and the community would be by winning the school's 14th national championship. And that is exactly what they accomplished. From Tornado To Title No. 14 is narrated by UA's Tommy Ford and illustrated in images taken by Kent Gidley and his staff of photographers at the University of Alabama. You will read about and see the tornado damage, the digging through debris, the rebuilding process, and the involvement of Tide head coach Nick Saban and his wife, Terry, along with the Alabama players. When the season opened, there was no denying the Tide, as they started out 8-0 before a narrow 9-6 defeat to top-ranked LSU. But the Tide, much like the residents of Tuscaloosa, got up off the ground, dusted themselves off and returned to the task at hand. After three more victories, Alabama had earned its way to the BCS National Championship Game and a rematch with LSU. On Jan. 9, 2012, in New Orleans, the Crimson Tide defense rose to the occasion, shutting out the Tigers 21-0 for Alabama's 14th national title in school history. Produced in collaboration with the University of Alabama athletic department, this 160-page book from Whitman Publishing measures 10 inches by 10 inches and is available for $29.95 No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
