When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.… (más)

Title: Pacific Rim Series: ----- Author: Alex Irvine Rating: of 5 Battle Axes Genre: Action/Adventure Pages: 352 Format: Kindle Synopsis: A good movie novelization. Aliens are coming. From the ocean. And we have to use gigantic robots to fight them off. My Thoughts: If you liked the movie for the fights and the action and raw, brute power, stick with the movie. This book didn't really portray the power side of things very well. If you thought the movie was skimpy on characterization and mecha info, then read the book. It fills in a good bit of stuff without making the book different from the movie. I'm usually not a fan of movie novelizations and don't bother with them. I either want to watch the movie OR read the book the movie is based on. " ( )

More like 2 1/2 stars. Not bad but didn't really add much to the whole movie. But the extras at the beginning of the chapters are worth reading.

The movie on the other hand is awesome. Which is kinda of let down for the novelization which decided to push the romantic envelop a little too much for my taste. The relationship on screen between Ms Mako Mori *g* and Raleigh was, is, just right. Deep respect, synch emotions, friendship created in an extreme, desperate situation. Both respect and are a bit in awe of each other like two soldiers who recognize him or herself in the other. Both strong, both thinking out of the box to a victorious ending if somewhat bitter sweet.

I liked the universe building of the movie (which the extra of the novel provided background nicely, thank you). ( )
