It seems absurdly presumptuous of somebody like me grading the work of a certified classic like Shelley. To be frank, while I enjoy Shelley, I do not count him among my favorites. And this volume is only a selection of his poems, neglecting some of the most famous (e.g., "Queen Mab"), while providing only excerpts of many more. My 5-star rating is specifically due to this book's existence as a physical object. It was one of the first of the Folio Society editions and the design and execution are top-notch. Best of all are the wood engravings of John Buckland-Wright. Dozens of wonderful creations, some of which illustrate, some of which ornament, and most of which provide expert commentary of a highly specialized sort. ( ) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

This new Longman Cultural Edition features Shelley's poetry and political writing, emphasizing his role as radical theorist, political reformer, and passionate advocate of individual and civil liberty. This thoughtful collection reflects the deep political convictions that inform works such as Prometheus Unbound and Ode to the West Wind, often regarded as abstract and esoteric. Shelley's work is contextualized by contemporary accounts of events that spurred his writing. Political caricatures and selections of radical writing from the periodical press enable today's readers to recognize the political Shelley and understand his abuse in startlingly hostile contemporary reviews to this great, adventurous poet. MARKET: For anyone interested in reading about the political writings of Shelley Percy and the influence they had on his major works of poetry. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
