"My whole life I planned on going to pilot school like the rest of my friends--then I got rejected! Along came a little green guy named Yoda who invited me to Jedi Academy. Now I'm at a school with aliens, robots, and lightsaber-wielding bullies who can lift things with their minds! How am I supposed to compete with that? As if starting middle school wasn't hard enough..." The story of Roan Novachez, Jedi Academy student, is told through comics, journal entries, letters, doodles, and newspaper clippings. This incredible, original story from author/illustrator Jeffrey Brown captures all of the humor, awkwardness, fun, and frustrations of middle school ... in a galaxy far, far away. It didn’t take me long to read through this book and I must say it was rather entertaining. It is written in the same style as the DC Society books by Derek Fridolfs. If you have read and enjoyed those books, you will more then likely enjoy these books.
Roan is an interesting little boy. He wants to attend the Flight Academy but he doesn’t get in. Instead he is set to start at the Plant Academy and he isn’t real thrilled about it. His whole life he’d been looking forward to following in the footsteps that his Grandpa, Father and Brother have laid out for him. However, the world seemed to have a different plan in mind for him. He was set to start at the Plant Academy when he got a letter that was inviting him to attend school at the Jedi Academy. Given Roan’s age this was mostly unheard of.
Roan starts school at the Jedi Academy and he does normal subjects and Jedi subjects. He makes friends and learns who to stay away from. Some of the kids in his class I’d consider mean and bully material. He does his best and finds out that he has a crush on a girl in his class. He misses school when he is home and home when he is at school.
I think that any child that loves Star Wars will enjoy reading this book. I love the illustrations within the pages. They give you a lot to look at and explore. I enjoy reading books like this because they are fun reads. I think that any child would be lucky to have this book added to their home or school library. ( )
