Zoe has a great pair of legs, perky boobs, and wears exactly what she needs to show it all off. She works hard for the easy sleazy 'you only wish you were me' reputation, burying who she really is-an all-out nerd. The only time Zoe gets to be herself is when she hides under her comforter to read X-Men comics, sending jealousy stabs at everyone who attends Comic-Con. Zak's a geek to the core, shunned by everyone in school for playing Dungeons and Dragons at lunch and wearing "Use the Force" t-shirts. And Zoe's got it bad for the boy. Only Zak doesn't want Popular Zoe. He wants Geek Zoe.… (más)

I honestly do love this book but god Zoe annoys the crap out of me. I've had my moments of insecurity and not feeling good enough, but I refuse to apologise for who I am - even if I am weird and batshit crazy. But she doesn't and it really irritates me. She's a horrible person in a lot of ways. The only redeeming thing is that at least she knows it. But it takes way too long for Zoe to get over it. I enjoyed the geeky references - I'm more a Harry Potter fan than Star Wars but it's always fun to see pop culture references in texts. The relationship between Zoe and Zak for all its ups and downs though is swoon-worthy and very sweet. Great book, 4 stars. ( )

I love that I can always count on a Cassie May book to make me have all the feels! It's never difficult to relate to the characters because they all go through real life problems and handle them in ways that are true to the characters. I especially love the moments between Zoe and her father. I feel you just don't see enough positive father daughter relationships in books. Her father makes a mistake and makes up for it the way I think most fathers would. Then he is there for her when she really needs him the most with support and love! I just loved it and hope my husband and daughter have that when she gets older. Zak was also so adorably sweet which is typical for Cassie Mae characters, total swoon worthy! Levi was another wonderful addition to the book and I can't wait to read more about him in the next book! ( )

This is one of these books that I liked, but couldn't enjoy that much because of the main character. How to Date a Nerd was great and it had very hilarious situations, but I didn't like the main character. At all. I can see why she wants to avoid the kind of school life that she had had before, but she goes too far. I thought that she is a bit of a coward and a really bad friend, which she says herself, but then keeps doing the same things that she promises herself that she won't do over and over again. Her neighbour gives her lots of chances to have a real friend, instead of the fake friends that she has, and she wastes all of them until the end.

Unlike Zoe, Zak is awesome. He keeps true to himself and keeps wearing the kind of clothes that he likes and playing the games and watching the tv shows and movies that he enjoys without caring about what the rest of the world -meaning his idiotic classmates- think of him.

Other than Zoe and Zak, the rest of the characters are very flat and they seem to be highly exaggerated, even stereotypes. Very few people in the whole school seem to be normal and decent people, which was a bit strange.

The plot is interesting, but predictable. Secretly geeky girl, who wants to be herself but feels that she can't without being bullied, falls in love with her geeky neighbour and former best friend. It has a bittersweet ending, but in a way, this makes it much more real because people don't change overnight or even at all sometimes. It's the kind of book that can be read very fast and I loved all the geeky things mentioned in it, some in very specific game or watching contexts, but others in casual conversation or as analogies.

Really fun book that deals with life in high school, but with a happy ending. ( )
