Horror delivered just the way I like it ... in small bites.
I will preface this review by stating I am not a fan of horror. While everybody else gushes about authors whose names rhyme with 'ring' or hobknobs about the latest horror flick, I cringe and sing a happy little tune in my own mind. This anthology, however, gifted to me by a friend, was different. Each story has an unusual, non-gory twist that is quite different from the usual slasher-grade fare that passes as horror these days. Each protagonist makes a series of choices, and what happens to them (good or bad) has a logical thought-process based upon those choices. Although there is murder, mayhem and madness, it is delivered with just enough gore to make it horror, but not so gruesome as to make it horrible. The short stories are just the right length to read during those car-trips to shuttle kids around to activities and then wait. There were some stories in this anthology I would rate a 5, others perhaps only a 3 (although I am a tough reviewer and enjoyed them all), so I am rounding out the entire collection as a 4-star review.
