Women's Studies in Religion: A Multicultural Readeruses essays written by today's most respected feminist voices to examine the impact of contemporary feminism on the practice and study of religion. Many in the field have expressed the need for a reader that is both accessible to undergraduates who have little background in the study of religion and that shows the transforming impact of feminism on the religious lives of American womean. This book meets that need. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

The 'multicultural' of the title is definitely a US multiculture. While some of the authors describe their early experiences in other (Asian) countries, all the authors live in the US. This leaves out not only a large part of the world all together, but even of those cultures included, there is no consideration of how an adult woman experiences these cultures. One of the contributers complains that in the US the cultual divide is Black/White, and other cultures don't count for much. Reading this from outside the US, I would add that the Black side is Afro-American, and that Africa doesn't seem to have any relevance after the end of the slave trade.
Many of the readings were over ten years old when included in the anthology, which makes them very dated now. It is not always obvious when an article was written and/ or when the events refered to take place.
It is also very heavily weighted against. It would have been interesting to read something by women who make 'standard' religion work for them.
I found most of the articles interesting, but the book as a whole is out of date and unbalanced. ( )
