After Math
Off the Subject, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: #Barbsbookopoly roll 1.

The Characters:

Scarlett Goodwin:
Tucker Price:
Tina, Caroline, Jason, Daniel

The Story:

A New Adult tale of CIA bound math wiz Scarlett and soccer star who needs help in math Tucker.

Tucker is about to lose his scholarship and along with it his dreams of going pro. Scarlett is determined not to be like her mom and sister and let a man ruin her life. When Tucker comes to Scarlett for math tutoring, sparks fly. They fight it for a long time but they just can’t resist. They have a hard time opening up to each other, letting each other in on their tragic pasts and it causes a big rift in the relationship.

Overall this is a love story and a pretty good one. It’s not mind blowing or anything but it’s a pleasant way to spend a few hours entertained.

It started out pretty good, then it just felt very rushed. The author built up all these secrets and made it all seem so intense ... and then the reveal was phhhbt ( )

Synopsis:

Scarlett Goodwin’s world is divided into Before and After.

Before she agreed to tutor Tucker Price, college junior Scarlett was introvert, struggling with her social anxiety disorder and determined to not end up living in a trailer park like her mother and her younger sister. A mathematics major, she goes to her classes, to her job in the tutoring lab, and then hides in the apartment she shares with her friend, Caroline.

After junior Tucker Price, Southern University’s star soccer player enters the equation, her carefully plotted life is thrown off its axis. Tucker’s failing his required College Algebra class. With his eligibility is at risk, the university chancellor dangles an expensive piece of computer software for the math department if Scarlett agrees to privately tutor him. Tucker’s bad boy, womanizer reputation makes Scarlett wary of any contact, let alone spending several hours a week in close proximity.

But from her first encounter, she realizes Tucker isn’t the person everyone else sees. He carries a mountain of secrets which she suspects hold the reason to his self-destructive behavior. But the deeper she delves into the cause of his pain, the deeper she gets sucked into his chaos. Will Scarlett find the happiness she’s looking for, or will she be caught in Tuck.

My review:

I loved this book. It had everything to keep me glued to the pages. This is the first time that I read a book by this author and I was happily surprised. I will be reading more of her books.

I truly enjoy books where both the hero and heroine are flawed human beings with a bit of a past. To see them beating the odds and ending up together brings a smile to my face.

Aftermath was a sweet surprise! I have read all of Denise's book and come to know her style of writing, so much so-that I consider her books like my friends. Aftermath was so easy for me to relate too...growing up in foster homes is..... I guess an unspoken club; we all have our devils to deal with when that is the hand you are dealt for your childhood. Overcoming that childhood is hard to do, but an amazing thing as well. I truly loved Denise's characters in this book, they are so easy to relate to! That alone makes it such an easy read! I love the Math twist that Denise added to the story, math truly is a fun subject! the logic of it-makes it a challenge, but getting it right is a awesome feeling! Thanks for such a wonderful story Denise, you did amazing work once again! ( )
