I'm not usually one to write reviews along with my ratings, but when I read an Allie Larkin book it just feels necessary. Her first book, Stay, was an instant favorite for me and Why Can't I Be You was no different. This is the story of a girl that takes on an entirely new persona when a stranger mistakes her for a long last friend. It sounds like a weird concept, as she is conning a wonderful, loving group of people, but I will admit that I laughed, I cried, and I felt like a better person when I finished reading. This book reminds you that you have to be the person you want to be, not who you think everyone else is expecting. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
Impulsively answering a stranger who shouts out the name of a woman she has always envied, Jenny tackles feelings of loneliness and discontent by embracing a new identity that leads to a warm circle of friends and unexpected romance before she uncovers a secret from her rival's past. This was a great story I think most of us can relate to. Life just seems to wear you down and you wish you could be someone else or have a reset button. When Jenny gets to know Jessie’s friends, there’s an instant connection. There was an emotional complexity to the story, moments you just wished you could tell Jenny it’ll be okay. My favorite character was Myra; she loved Jessie/Jenny, and treated her like time hadn’t passed at all. This was a fun, humorous read with lots of character. If you like Chick Lit, or just want a fun book that has you drawn in from the very beginning, then this is the book for you.
