This is a great cookbook featuring recipes for many of the dishes we enjoy at Chinese restaurants. While it doesn't have quite every dish, there is usually another recipe that could be adapted for the dish you enjoy. For example, there is not a recipe for one of my favorite dishes, Mongolian Chicken, but there is a Mongolian Beef recipe. There are often tips and notes about various dishes or ingredients which add interest. The photography is well-done. Although there is a sidebar about fortune cookies, there is no actual recipe for them, although the sidebar did note that originally these were made by hand. I'm not sure if the author chose not to include it because the cookie is Japanese in origin, but regardless of its origin, it is something expected with Chinese takeout, so a recipe would have been in order. I borrowed this one from the library, and I would love to own a personal copy. Perhaps I'll hint that I want a wok and this book as a Christmas gift! ( )

I so love Chinese Take out food. Love the whole buffet thing too. Hmm now I'm hungry. Anyways, this cookbook actually looks like I can make some of the recipes. I made this one last night. Dan Dan Noodles...


Yes I improvised and threw in two different kinds of noodles. I was out of scallions too. Oh well..they actually turned out well. The kidlet really liked them.
There are several other recipes in this book that I would love to try. Including Mongolian Beef, General Tso's Chicken and hot-n-sour soup..yum.

It's a library copy so I may just have to end up buying this one. ( )

I love this book. I was hoping it had a Chicken On A Stick recipe but it didn't. That is the only negative I have for it. I have made several of the recipes and they all turned out great and tasty. The ingredients are easy to find (so far I've been able to get everything from Walmart) and the recipes are easy to follow and quick and easy to prepare. The big plus is that the recipes are much healthier than the takeout versions but just as good. ( )
