Let me start by confessing I really like McGough and also by saying that reviewing poetry is difficult. Blazing fruit is the poet's own selection of his poems from 1967-1987. The volume showcases his political observations and witty commentary on love and relationships. This is not the quick gentle children's poet and the much-loved lyricist of Lily-the-Pink but a darker and more intimate contemporary writer. As collections often are, the pace is a little uneven and the style is quite variable but overall a recommended work especially for anyone looking to get a taste of Mersery Sound poetry without full immersion. McGough's first book of poems was published just over 20 years ago, and this volume represents his own selection of his best work. His other titles include Melting Into the Foreground, Sky in the Pie and Summer with Monika. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
