This work is an updated abridgment of the 1739 sermon by Jonathan Edwards titled "Christian Knowledge" or "The Importance and Advantage of a Thorough Knowledge of Divine Truth." In this condensed version, Edwards' original message has been preserved, while the language has been updated for 21st century readers.Edwards divided this sermon into six parts, answering a series of questions drawn out from a passage in the book of Hebrews. He intended to show how theology is of the utmost importance, not only for ministers and theologians, but for everyone else as well. He made it clear that the main source of knowledge in theology is the Bible and everyone can benefit from learning it.The purpose of this sort of "translation" (in Modern English) is to pass on the biblical message that Edwards so masterfully communicated in his time for people today, allowing the original message to ring clear and connect with both the hearts and minds readers.About 275 years has passed since this sermon was first published. For some people, reading 18th century North-American English can be very difficult, especially if English is not one's native language. Therefore, some will benefit from an updated version of Edwards' work.Endorsements"Penn Tomassetti's carefully abridged and paraphrased Christian Knowledge by Jonathan Edwards is contemporary, relevant, and equips one to grow intellectually and spiritually."- Adriaan C. Neele, Yale University Divinity School / Jonathan Edwards Center… (más)
