I would use the book Volcanoes, by Stephanie Turnball, as a guided reading book to see how much information my students could recall without memorizing the information. This is a good comprehension book to test children on because there are sections of the book that are sequencing, cause and effect, characteristic events, and descriptive attributes. Students reading this guided reading book will be able to learn cool facts about volcanoes, also! This would be a great guided reading book to test children on for comprehending science texts.
