"The lucky penny in Judy Moody's pocket sure does seem to be working. She can't stop winning-at bowling, spelling, the unbeatable Prize Claw, everything! For sure and absolute positive, she'll ride that wave of good fortune all the way to Washington, D.C."--

Little Miss Moody thinks she's on a roll when Lady Luck seems to be going her way...until it isn't, turning her lucky penny into a toilet-water-soaked (don't ask) disappointment, bringing on the most bad mood of them all! Don't worry though because it's nothing a little adventure in pig-sitting and a trip to our nation's capital can't fix in a hurry.

This book was an all time favorite of mine, which is why I chose to review It. Judy Moody is a girl who gets a penny from her grandma, but It was not any penny... it was a squished one, she realized that It was her bad luck charm but didn’t notice that until the end of the book. It brought her good luck all the way until the end. I would have my students write about a time when they had a good luck charm. ( )

In Judy Moody and the Bad Luck Charm, a charismatic girl named Judy gets a squished penny from her grandma. All of these great things start happening to her and she realizes that the penny is good luck! Judy's luck continues when she has lucky cereal in the morning, finds $10 while walking to school, and gets three strikes in a row at her friend's birthday part! Judy then uses her newfound good luck to enroll herself in a spelling bee in Washington D.C. However, something goes wrong with the penny right before the bee, so she has to use her inner courage and brains to continue on with the spelling bee. ( )

A cute 3rd grade level book. Good for working on fluency. ( )

Grades 1-4

Ever since Grandma gave Judy a lucky penny, nothing can go wrong-- she's able to get the stuffed animal prize in the claw game, she finds $10, she even bowls a turkey at the bowling alley! But all that changes when the penny gets dropped in the toilet. Afterwards, Judy can't seem to find ANY good luck. She was so looking forward to going to Washington, DC as the third-grade winner of the spelling bee, but after the penny fiasco, Judy loses to Jessica Finch! Even when Judy finds out that her family is going to go along so that Judy can babysit Jessica's pet pig, Judy almost loses the pig. But Judy slowly realizes that good luck is out there, lucky penny or not, if she only keeps an eye out for it. A solid addition to the Judy Moody series.
