"She thinks he's stuffy. He thinks she's spoilt. Then the gloves come off and so do their clothes! For six years Violet Sutcliffe has known that Martin St Clair is the wrong man for her best friend. He's stuffy, old before his time, conservative. He drives Violet nuts - and the feeling is entirely mutual. Then, out of nowhere, her friend walks out just weeks before her wedding to Martin, flying to Australia on a mission of self-discovery. Back in London, Violet finds herself feeling sorry for suddenly-single Martin. At least, she tells herself it's pity she feels. Then he comes calling one dark, stormy night and they discover that beneath their mutual dislike there lies a fiery sexual chemistry. It's crazy and all-consuming - and utterly wrong. Because not only are they chalk and cheese, oil and water, but Martin once belonged to her best friend. A friend Violet is terrified of losing. What future can there be for a relationship with so many strikes against it? This book is a spin off from my Blaze novel, Hot Island Nights. Both stories can be read in isolation and still make perfect sense, but I hope that together they form a neat little duo."--… (más)

Her Best Worst Mistake
5 Stars

Violet Sutcliffe and Martin St. Clair only tolerate each other's company for the sake of her best friend and his fiancée, Elizabeth. But when Elizabeth calls off the wedding and sets off for Australia to find herself, Violet and Martin are left behind to pick up the pieces. Soon, it is revealed that beneath the animosity and contempt lies an intense passion and desire that neither Violet nor Martin can or want to control.

Series note: This is the follow-up book to Elizabeth's story, but can definitely be read as a standalone.

Violet and Martin's incredibly sexy and steamy enemies to lovers romance is absolutely delightful. Violet has worked hard over the years to overcome the neglect and rejection of her childhood, and her self-confident party-girl personality masks a deep-seated desire to be loved for who she really is. Likewise, beneath Martin's stuffy persona and conservative three-piece suits lies the heart and soul of a truly good and honorable man with a tremendous capacity for love with the right woman. Thanks to Elizabeth's desertion, this seemingly mismatched pair are finally able to see the attraction that has been there all along.

The only problem with this book its that it comes to an end. Highly recommended for fans of the love-hate relationship trope.

I quite liked this book and its companion novel [b:Hot Island Nights|8177542|Hot Island Nights (Harlequin Blaze, #566)|Sarah Mayberry|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348388066s/8177542.jpg|13024069]; both had likable characters and sexy naked times but both ended kind of on the weak side. The tension in the stories was resolved a little too neatly. This is partly a problem of length, since the books were on the short side and I think they could have each used another couple of chapters. Still, I'll be glomming Mayberry's other titles. ( )

So far this weekend I’ve complained about books being too quippy in effort to engage, but this just wasn’t quippy enough. By 35%, I just didn’t know who these people were, and there’s some quick p in v just based on all their past, like, white hot hatred for each other. I don’t care about white hot hatred that’s a thin cover for white hot lust, but I like it when I can feel it. And well, really, these two literally put me to sleep. Reading on my iPad, it fell right the fuck on my face. I wasn’t drifting. I was full blown asleep. I think it’s important to mention that local time it felt like 7:45 cause DST is (god awful) fully in effect as of today. I think it’s important to mention I’m a night owl all days but Friday (idk, but I’m serious)

So. Yeah. Not for me.

Once again Eloisa James and Sarah Maclean have steered me to a book I would have never found on my own but I LOVED it. The writing is smart, the relationships are delightful and the characters are brilliantly written. If you like enemy to lovers stories this is definitely a must read. ( )

Cute. Martin was a little too good to be true in that HQN way. I also didn't buy the complete 180 he did from his treatment of Elizabeth to his relationship with Violet. But cute. ( )
