The whole time I was reading this book, I was thinking it was a bit of a train wreck, but I couldn't help being a rubber-necker. Wow, I loved every minute of it. I want to live in Ali's world. Zombies and all. Now to devour the second book. And wait impatiently for the third. ( ) Possibly 3.5 stars - I think this is definitely a book where the age of the reader matters. I read a lot of YA (I am a high school librarian) and sometimes I've found that I just feel too old to really enjoy the books. That said, this isn't a re-telling of Alice in Wonderland - with zombies, like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is, it is a teen zombie action adventure with a bit of soulmate/bad boy love interest thrown in, where the MC is named Alice. Definitely a page turner and quite enjoyable, I will be interested to see what my students think of it. Oh my gosh. I just finished this book, and I loved it! I thought about it all day at school. I was like I just want to go home and finish reading Alice in Zombieland! I was slightly surprised that I enjoyed this book so much because I'm not a huge fan of zombies, but this book was great! I think my love for the original Alice in Wonderland caused me to like this even more, but it is a lot different from the original story. There are really only a couple of similarities. I also loved the characters and plot. Not only is there a lot of action and butt kicking, but some romance as well. And I have to admit, I'm a sucker for romance. xD I mean I love Cole. The hot bad type boy? Totally awesome. I also loved Frosty and Kat together because they make a wonderful couple. And Alice is great because of her strong, witty personality. I can't wait for the next book! I'm so sad I have to wait until next year! I love zombie books and was hesitant to read this one. First because while I love Gena Showalter's other books, I just couldn't see her writing a good zombie book. Sorry but it is the truth. Second because I was expecting it to be a twist on Alice in Wonderland and, again, I couldn't see it for a Zbook. Wow! Was I wrong! On both counts. Gena Showalter wrote an amazing zbook. Not on the same page as most zbooks but amazingly good. I was truly happily surprised. She held me enchanted and I really read the book in one sitting. Despite the title the book is not an exact twist on Alice in Wonderland. I was not certain what it was exactly. The zombies in this book have a twist to them. It doesn't make them any less scary but it is w weird, strange trip with them. Matter of fact I played the Grateful Dead in the background about halfway through the book because the line, "what a long strange trip its been," kept flitting through my head. The twist on the zombies works in this book a lot better than I had thought it would. It is a truly surprising book. Alice is the main character. She loses her family at the beginning of the book and that is when we go down the rabbit hole with her. And yes it does have that feel. Alice is a tough, kick butt character yet is vulnerable too. Her best friend is an amazingly funny chick she meets at the hospital, Kat. I love Kat. She is hilarious and loyal. Her love attraction is Cole and Kat's is Frosty. These two are the bad boys we all love. Oh yeah! This was a truly amazing book. I could not put it down until I finished it. Yes that is correct. I read this one with no break, popping a can of Campbell's cup a soup in the microwave just so I wouldn't have to stop to cook. Gena Showalter broke out of the genre I associated her with and won! I even forgot I was reading YA though it is entirely suited for YA. Nothing steamy though filled to overflowing with action. Absolute awesomesauce. Book 2? Bring it on! I try to express only my most honest opinion in a spoiler-free way. Unfortunately, there is still always a risk of slight spoilers despite my best efforts. If you feel something in my review is a spoiler please let me know. Thank you. After an accident that kills Alice's family. She thrown into a new home, school, and life. She meets new friends, crushes on a totally hot and mysterious boy, and to top it off she is seeing 'monsters'. Just like her father before her, she sees them at night and worries that she may have inherited his craziness. She soon comes to believe she may not be the only one to see it and that leads her to a new purpose for her life. So this book was not what I was expecting. And the similarities to Alice in Wonderland are really very few. I stopped looking after the first quarter of the book. I would describe this book as a cross between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Twilight but replacing all the vampires with zombies. Why? Well, the reason for Buffy becomes pretty obvious right off. As for Twilight, its the mostly the romance that feels similar but there are some other similarities as well. I've been wanting to read this book since the first time I saw it, and while I admit I'm a bit disappointed in some ways, but I'm happy in others. The book was really good, and if I had gone into it without any expectations than I might have even seen it as a 5-star. As it stands though I do feel this book is a solid 4 star book and I will be looking into the next of the series. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
