Launched in Colombo in September 2008 is The One Year Drawing Project, a document of exchange between four Sri Lankan artists: Muhammad Cader, Thamortharampillai Sanathanan, Chandraguptha Thenuwara and Jagath Weerasinghe.The project required the four participating artists to each start a series of A4-sized drawings, sending them to other members of the group, who then responded with further new drawings. The result is a collection of 208 drawings, beautifully bound in brown paper wrapping, published by Raking Leaves, an independent publisher of contemporary artist book projects. None of these works have been or will be on show, which makes the book a portable exhibition. An accompanying booklet chronicles the development of the work, and the wolrd events against which the drawings were created.
