This is the 2nd book in the trilogy and Skye's story continues. Skye wakes up in a cabin in the middle of the woods, healed and with Asher. She can't remember all of what she has been through. She vows to keep looking for answers. She tells Asher she will join him in the Rebellion, but then begins to have doubts. She is not sure who to trust and realizes that both the Order and the Rebellion want her on their side. Time is running out to make a choice. This book also ends on a cliffhanger...you'll want to have the 3rd book handy to start reading.
I was happy with how the story continued in this book. A lot of questions were answered, but there are still many unanswered ones. I like the romance and the friendships that Skye has and they reflect who she is. I think the book has a good mix of romance, action and paranormal elements to keep the reader hooked. It's well written, with an interesting setting. I think the characters are well developed over the three books and I have been enjoying this trilogy. I would recommend it for a school and public library. It is suitable for most YA readers. Nothing really objectionable - some language, discussion about losing your virginity and light drinking. I would say it appropriate for the MS/HS crowd. An enjoyable read! ( )

This picks up right after the other ended, and while it has only been a short time, I had already forgotten some details, but it gets you right back to speed.
There is a lot of tension in this one as Skye comes back home, with her aunt because she suddenly disappeared, at Devin because he tried to kill her, with herself at all of the guardians around and the fact that she is still out of control more than she wants to be.
But Skye is getting more control, becoming more confident even through the confusion and tension with others. I admired her for that.
Her relationship with Asher is still fun to read about. We get to see a slightly darker and deeper side of him in this one that I totally appreciated. And then his lighter, joking side also came back out and that kept things from getting too bogged down and completely serious.
For the most part this one it is mostly character development and build up of the tension.
Luckily I got the next one from Harper to review so keep your eyes peel over next few days for it.

Bottom Line: Good second book.

While I want to thank First Reads and HarperTeen for providing me a copy of A Fractured Light, I have to be honest and say that I did not enjoy this novel. I found the writing to be filled with cliches and dependent on overly dramatic phrases. The plot was nearly devoid of action until the last ten pages and had an absurd amount of holes (Why doesn't Skye care who healed her at the end of A Beautiful Dark? Why doesn't the Order ever try to kill her again while she's on any of her countless hikes/runs into the forest? Why does Cassie only need half a page to accept that angels are real and Skye is one of them? If there's a war going on between the Order and the Rebellion, why do they coexist so peacefully?). Skye is the type of female "heroine" that I really dislike, incredibly powerful but so insanely absorbed in this boy and that boy that she can't seem to get her act together and actually be strong. There's nothing wrong with having an emotional female protagonist, nothing wrong with having a romance drive the plot, but there is a problem when the protagonist cares more about boys than she does about her family and friends, an upcoming war, and the potential end of the world. Personally, I just couldn't get into Skye as a character or this novel as a whole.
