This was the summer that would change my life. No more being what everyone expected. No more doing what everyone else wanted. So when Luke came into my life, I decided to keep him a secret. Maybe he as a dead-ringer for notorious Hollywood bad boy Trent Yves. And it was possible that everything he told me was a lie. And yes, I was probably asking for trouble. But all I saw was Luke--sweet, funny, caring--someone who would let me be the real me. But which was the real him?… (más)

Okay, so don’t crucify me. This story had so much potential. There are some quite funny spots. The blurb caught my attention right away, and I loved the cover, but what in the world does the title have to do with this story? Like, I’m seriously baffled. Let me say I am a mood reader, so maybe it’s just a me thing. I do feel as if this was more literary fiction than romance. With that being said, if that is what you enjoy, this is most definitely more for you. ( )

Like swimming through molasses.
Ugh.
It felt more like an obligatory read than anything.
Not good enough to keep me in the story. ( )

I really enjoyed this book. Don’t let the cover fool you. This is much more than a love story. I would consider the love story more of a subplot. It seemed to be more of a coming of age story for 16-year-old Brigitta. As with many YA stories, she was trying to understand herself. But the story itself was very unique and included a possible movie star, blogs posts, finding and attempting to raise two cougar cubs, and many family issues stemming from the recent loss of her grandmother. In fact one of my favorite aspects of this story was Brigitta’s family. They lived in a rural area in an Earthship made of recycled materials and hosted retreats for all types of religious groups. Her family was very much a backstory, but I loved how their lifestyle affected Brigitta in so many scenes from her food selections to her thoughts on water usage. She was a very well developed character. As an adult, this story held my interest, which isn’t always the case with YA. I will pass along this book to my young teenage daughter as I felt it was appropriate for her, (it lacked the foul language, drinking, and sex scenes that is often in YA meant for older teens.) ( )

My Opinion :

I really wanted to love this book, but it just wasn't for me.

The Summer of No Regrets is a debut novel, so yeah about that!, but I didn't really enjoyed reading it.

I got my copy the day BEFORE it got out, and so I decided to read it then, so I could have my review up as quickly as possible. I read the book in aobut two hours, and even if I read it quickly, it wasn't fast-paced enough for me.

The Summer of No Regrets is about Brigitta and Luke... they meet, and Luke looks like this teen sensation called Trent Yves... but is he him? Then, they take care of kittens together, and they fall in love. But, what if she had fallen in love with a lie? A big lie?

The writing is okay; a bit too much slow-paced with some parts with no action in them, which sometimes makes the book boring.

This book had some blog posts in it. Those were 'written by Brigitta', and they were mostly about how Trent Yves is stupid and yady yada; I didn't really want to read all of them. Some did make the story good... but other posts were just pointless and I just skipped those. And, also, there are some comments on the posts.... and I don't think we needed them... *sigh*

I actually thought that Luke wasn't that good of a guy... and you'll understand if you ever read the book... which I don't really recommend you do, unless you get it from the library. The only thing that should make you want to read the book is of its awesome cover. Point.

Brigitta was a pretty good character, although I didn't really like her that much... I guess I just didn't relate to her at all *shrugs*

One thing that kind of made me uncomfortable is the bits of religion mentions; Brigitta's father had parents that thought of the Christian religion VERY highly, which made her father despise it (and also a bit dislike his parents), and now he's a shaman... which is kind of weird... And, the awkward thing is that Brigitta had a tight relationship with her father's mother...

Anyways, an okay book.

This book was...interesting.

Brigitta kind of annoyed me. She seemed so intelligent, yet so utterly oblivious about Luke and what was really going on. And she was somewhat all over the place in her thought pattern. From her parents, to her grandparents, to her friend, to Luke, to the animals she cares for, to her blog. Luke also bothered me, but for a different reason. He seemed to run very hot and cold. Every time things made sense, he and Brigitta would have some kind of interaction that changed everything.

I did really enjoy the story itself, though. It had a lot going on and could've been more focused, but it was still pretty good. It was a funner, lighter story. A good, pretty quick summer read. I liked some of the plot lines more than others, but I wasn't a big fan of some of them. The logic was also a bit iffy at times, but I just read past it.

This wasn't a fantastic book. It didn't blow me out of the water and I can't full remember the ending or the truth about Luke's deal. But I liked it while I read it and it was entertaining. If you have it in your TBR pile or you're debating getting it, I would go for it!
