Plain Jane is a cute YA book. It addresses the standard day-to-day issues teens deal with (dating, teasing, insecurities, etc…) in a fun and humorous way. Jane is a likeable, quirky and memorable character.

Pros: The first person narrative gives us an in depth view of Jane’s inner feelings and concerns. Many teen issues are tackled, but not in an ‘in-your-face’ way. Jane is a nicely developed character, and her story is fast-paced and engaging.

Cons: The dialogue is a little wooden at times, and the numerous characters in the story can become a little confusing.

Overall: I feel this story is an interesting and valuable read for teens. It softly steers the reader through choices or circumstances Jane goes through that the reader may find valuable in their own lives.
