Starts with a bang, ends with another and there's a ton of action and intrigue between the two. It took a bit of digging to learn there are two more books in the series as no Maine library has either, so I've ordered the second and hope it's as satisfying as the first. ( )

Does the girl on the cover remind anyone else of Kristen Stewart? Anyone? No? Just me? That’s cool…

So, this book took me over a week to read. Coming from the girl who reads a book a day on average, this raises some eyebrows.
But why did it take me so long to read this book?
I don’t know. I enjoyed ALL the characters, the plot was not at all slow, and the romance wasn’t bad, either. Those the three criteria on which I usually grade, and there were all either on or above average level.

The problem, I think, was the book I read RIGHT BEFORE this one, which may have put me in a reading slump.

Nonetheless, I assure you I will reread this book when the whole trilogy is out and I an get all three from the library.

Until next time…

So much irritating melodrama. ( )

Read my overall review of the whole series here! Spoiler Free!

Lesley Livingston is one of my must-read authors. I love her work. Her stories always have a fabulous blend of action, romance and awesome background stories of legends or older stories. When I heard that she was writing a spin-off from the Wondrous Strange Series (an all time favourite series of mine), I grabbed a copy as soon as I was able.

I really enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down. Mason was a kick-ass heroine and her family story was super interesting. Fennrys wasn't one of my favourite characters from the Wondrous Strange series but he really grew on me in this one. Like most characters who are in the original series, you often judge them through the eyes of another character. But when the perspective shifts to them in a new series (or even a later book) you really appreciate them as a character.

There was a lot going on in this book so it was never a dull moment! There are a few twists here and there so it wasn't predictable (BONUS!). I also loved the Norse god mythology in this. It's something that isn't as popular in young adult books so it was a nice change from faeries and vampires.

I recommend that you make note of details in this book as it will pay off in seeing why things are happening and they will no doubt influence the rest of the books in the series.

Overall: Starling is quite different from [b:Wondrous Strange|3064985|Wondrous Strange (Wondrous Strange, #1)|Lesley Livingston|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327879404s/3064985.jpg|3095990] because of the use of Norse legends instead of the Shakespearian faeries. It is still written in similar style but the characters and plots are completely different. It's a nice change but fans of the first series will like this one I'm sure. You also don't have to read the Wondrous Strange Series first, but it will help set some context for this series.

I couldn't even believe this book! I mean...I read it in less than 6 hours, it was that good! Fast-paced action, serious swooning over Fenn, and MYTHOLOGY!!!! I have always enjoyed reading about different mythologies, Greek being my favorite, but I don't really know much about the Norse. That put me at a disadvantage, knowing who was who and why they're that way, but I really want to learn more. It was fun for me when I was able to recognize someone I did know about, like who Rafe is and some of the monsters. And boy, I hope Rory really gets his. What a total reject. (Reject is about the nicest thing I could think of to put in the review. My feelings for him are much stronger.) Everyone needs to read this book!!! ( )
