Jesus' Ideals of Living: A d104book in the Religion of Youth, Based on Jesus' Own Religion and His Discoveries of Truth is a religious textbook written by George Walter Fiske. Fiske held a PhD from Boston University and was a theology professor at the School of Theology at Oberlin College. Jesus' Ideals of Living is intended to be used by teachers instructing teenagers in a Christian education. "Is there anything real in religion?" Fiske rhetorically asks, "What difference does it really make if a person is a Christian?" The author attempts to lead students to the answers to these questions through a series of chapters detailing the teachings of Jesus. The book is divided into six parts, with topics such as "Jesus' Ideals of Living," "Jesus' Ideals of Personal Growth," "Ideals or Personal Righteousness," "Ideals of Social Justice," " Ideals of Service and Sacrifice," and "Ideals of Friendship." Every part is composed of numerous short chapters, each of which contains a different teaching or lesson of Jesus. Chapters are concluded with a series of discussion questions to encourage further thinking. As a Christian textbook, Jesus' Ideals of Living is effective. The book is presented in a logical manner, and the teachings contained within are certainly relevant to the subject matter. The discussion questions are carefully designed, and require the student to not only reflect on the reading, but also to engage in a period of self-reflection. Jesus' Ideals of Living is a worthy textbook on Christianity and the teachings of Jesus. If you are in search of a textbook to teach young people and teenagers about Jesus' ideals Fiske's book is definitely worthy of your consideration.
