In my opinion, this is a great informational story about polar bears. I really liked the illustrations and features in this book. The enlarged pictures of polar bears covers each page, and bold, blue headings summarizes the paragraphs. The organization allows for ease when reading this book. The non-fiction elements are very engaging. For example, facts presented such as, all polar bears are twins, will assist in broadening reader’s knowledge of polar bears. The overall message of this book is to inform readers about polar bear facts. ( )

I liked this book for the way it is written, mainly organized. The books is broken down by topics. Within the topics, the author briefly explains the polar bear. For example, the section is called Polar bears are tiny. It then goes on to discuss the size of polar bears at birth and does it in four simple sentences. I also like this book for the use of photographs. The author went on a polar bear trip and took the pictures himself. I like this because it is a polar bear in its natural habitat and not pictures of a polar bear at the zoo. The message of this book is to teach readers about polar bears. ( )

This book has interesting facts about polar bears although it is written by a photographer. Every photograph or series of photographs of this picture book is accompanied by paragraph explaining a fact about them. Polar bears cubs are tiny and usually born as twins. Polar bears struggle, live in the Arctic, and aren't really white. This book covers all the things a child could ever want to know about polar bears and pretty cool pictures to look at too. ( )

SUMMARY: This book has many interesting facts about polar bears. For example, did you know that polar bears are not white but actually black?! They reflect the white of the light because their hairs are hollow. The book also describes habitat, speed, exc.

REVIEW: This book's central message is to inform the reader about polar bears and bring awareness that they are endangered. It describes their habitat, their characteristics, and again, the fact that they are endangered. For example, "Climate change is their single greatest threat." I loved that this book has real photographs of polar bears that compliment the text.

I really like informational books that contain photographs, and this book was no exception. Mark Newman captured the images of both polar bear cubs and adult bears, and gave many facts about them as well. One surprising fact was that polar bears aren't actually white! They only appear that way because of the light reflecting off of their clear fur. Their skin underneath is black, believe it or not! Any age children will find this book fascinating, and will enjoy learning about the polar bear in photo album fashion. Would be a great supplement to a study of the habitats in which polar bears reside, or alongside a unit or lesson about mammals or bears. ( )
