I'm not going to give this a star rating, because I think when it comes to spiritual matters everything is so intensely personal that it seems presumptuous to apply any sort of objective assessment.

I found the book preachy and not particularly useful. I think there's a bit of putting the cart before the horse in suggesting that you say "I'm grateful for another wonderful day" when you wake up, rather than finding a way to be truly grateful for another wonderful day. That's not to suggest that gratitude isn't important, but I think there are other more useful practices to experience gratitude.

At times I found the advice almost insulting in its lack of understanding of everyday life. I hate being admonished for what a monk thinks a lay person is doing wrong. If Thich Nhat Hanh just explained his experience I would find it much more useful than him guessing what I need.

I think if this is the first Buddhist book you read, and you had an open mind, this book could be useful, but I don't see it as a way to go deeper into your practice.

This is a book to be studied, not just to be read. ( )

> PRATIQUE DE LA MÉDITATION Â CHAQUE INSTANT, de Thich Nhat Hanh (Editions Le Courrier du Livre, 160 pages - 14 € ) ;

As always a wonderful piece of work by Thich Nhat Hanh. Help with meditation and mindfulness and practicing how to breathe, how to meditate, how to be more mindful, how to live, and just reach your inner self; where we live at a time when that is becoming harder and harder to do. The gathas at the end are sure to be very helpful for many people. As well as the insight provided throughout the book. ( )

This is a powerful book which set me straight on what meditation is. essentially, the author says, meditation only means being aware of what is going on in our bodies, our feelings, and our minds. What he talks about is so simple like admiring nature that I'm very keen on following the simple steps. I borrowed this book from the library but since it is a keeper I'm buying it. ( )
