The North British line from Carlisle to Hawick, built as the Border Union Railway, was the southern half of the Waverley Route to Edinburgh. It travelled through the wild and romantic Border country with Riccarton one of the most remote railway villages ever to be constructed.
The branch lines to Gretna and to Langholm are also included in this book, which is the series’ usual style, with 120 black and white photographs, plus large scales maps, track plans, timetables and other details of local history. As usual, the pictures cover a number of periods, and there are plenty of general views of stations and the like. Almost all the pictures are from the steam era.
